Atrocities in Burundi

January

In the African nation of Burundi, atrocities are being perpetrated against countless innocent men, women, and children.  This small country is located just south of Rwanda, a place all too familiar with such horror itself.

The violence was instigated by the recent contested third term of President Pierre Nkurunziza, which began in July 2015.  A multitude of what UN Watch calls “human rights abuses” have already occurred, despite Burundi’s election to a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council in October.  Just days before the election, the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner recorded its own worries about the state of the country, stating that they are “extremely concerned at the rapidly worsening security and human rights situation in Burundi.”  January 1st marked the official start of the term, which will run through December 31st, 2016.  Burundi’s term is set to expire in 2018.

Please take a moment to visit the above links, to find out more about the crisis taking place right now in Burundi.  Genocide must not be allowed to exist anywhere in the world, and the stages are showing themselves clearly.  The world must refuse to allow them to continue unabated.
