National Bullying Prevention Month: Resource Round-Up!

October

By Robin Lane

National Bullying Prevention Month is in full swing, and there are so many great resources out there for teachers and students. Instead of recreating the wheel we would rather share some of our favorites from around the web.

Check out the links below!

Anti-Defamation League, "Ways to Address Bias and Bullying"

This ADL resource provides ideas and strategies to engage students and schools in advocacy for and education about bullying prevention. It gives helpful information regarding what you can do as a teacher or administrator if you only have a few weeks, as well as offering suggestions on how you can plan more long-term interventions.

Anti-Defamation League, "Be an Ally" and "Sea un Aliado"

The ADL offers this resource in English and in Spanish, with strategies for kids about how to stand up against bullying. It is presented in easy to understand language, and it is straightforward enough to be both useful and engaging for students of all ages.

PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center

Resources abound at PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center! They have videos, classroom activities, posters you can order, and plenty more.

StopBullying.gov

This website is maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It provides lots of great resources, categorized by audience (like teens, educators, and parents), as well as information about cyberbullying, online training, and social media connections.

Echoes and Reflections, "The Risks When Connecting Bullying to the Holocaust"

Here at the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission, we believe that both bullying prevention and education about the Holocaust and other genocides are important missions. We agree with Echoes and Reflections that trying to simplistically connect bullying with the Holocaust can miss the mark. This is an important read for educators addressing these topics in their classrooms!
