Holocaust Museum Houston Receives THGC Grant
HOUSTON, TX (March 18, 2013) – Holocaust Museum Houston has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission to convert its popular book-based educational curriculum trunks into an electronic iPad format.
The Curriculum Trunk Program is one of the most successful programs of the Museum and provides teachers with age- and grade-appropriate lesson plans in English and Spanish to ensure a comprehensive teaching unit about the Holocaust and other genocides, as well as the universal lessons that must be learned from them. Targeting elementary, middle and high school classrooms, the steamer-size trunks provide lesson plans and supplementary resources for teachers, librarians and educators. The program is available to educators in the 48 contiguous states — without cost — thereby ensuring that all educators and their students can learn the history and lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides. In the 2011-2012 academic year, nearly 600 educators implemented the trunks in their classrooms, reaching more than 30,000 students.
