Texan Liberator Project is Newsworthy

Have you heard about the THGC's Texan Liberator project?  In addition to information on our website about the project, please read this article by the Houston Chronicle.  The newspaper recently spoke with the THGC's former chairman, Commissioner Pete Berkowitz, as well as Texas Tech University's Dr. Aliza Wong, about our effort to successfully carry out this massive undertaking to honor those veterans.  Birney Havey, a liberator interviewed by Baylor University's Institute for Oral History for a previous THGC project, also served as a vital source for the article.

The THGC has spent the last year working with Texas Tech University on a one-of-a-kind mission to create tools that commemorate Texan liberators of Nazi concentration camps during World War II, while educating state residents about the evils of the Holocaust.  In addition to the creation of a digital application, resource website, and printed book, the THGC is determined to identify as many Texan liberators as possible and produce a commemorative honor roll.

Please take a moment to read the article on the Houston Chronicle's website.  Please also consider taking a moment to help make history, by submitting a Liberator Information form or by simply spreading the word about our search.  Contact Cheyanne Perkins, Program Specialist, at cheyanne.perkins@thgc.texas.gov with any questions or comments.
