The Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission (THGC) strives to meet its mission of educating the Texas public about the Holocaust and modern genocides. Through various programs, the THGC attempts to reach as wide an audience as possible throughout the state. Currently, THGC staff and commissioners work on:
- Educational Support during Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Quarantine
- Educator Workshops
- Friends of THGC Dr. Steinberger Outstanding Educator Award of $1,000
- Friends of THGC Educator Grants
- Friends of THGC Student Contests in Poetry & Visual Arts
- Holocaust Remembrance Week
- In-Person/Virtual Presentations by THGC Staff
- Partnering with the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies to investigate Lyndon B. Johnson's Operation Texas
- Partnering with Yahad-in Unum and their exhibit Holocaust by Bullets
- Peter N. Berkowitz Institute
- THGC Non-Profit Grants
- Traveling Exhibits (The Texas Liberator currently on hold due to COVID-19)
Because we are a state commission, we rely on the Friends of Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission 501(c)(3) non-profit to help fund various programs, grants, and awards that we facilitate. With their help, the THGC is able to continue programs like the student contests and educator grants year after year.
