A Survivor's Liberation Experience   View Event

  • Description:  Echoes & Reflections invites teachers and their students to participate and hear from Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan, author of Four Perfect Pebbles, a Scholastic Book recommended for grades 6-12. While Europe and the US celebrated the end of WWII, those who survived the Holocaust had the difficult and painful task of picking up the pieces and rebuilding after liberation. During this webinar, participants will hear a first-hand account of liberation and begin to understand how survivors contemplated life after the Holocaust. 2021 Friends of THGAAC Student Contests in Poetry & Visual Arts Open   View Event

  • Description:  This year's theme is Sites of Memory. Each submission must be accompanied by the electronic application, parent/guardian permission form, and honesty clause form. All entries are due by 4:00 PM CDT on Friday, April 30, 2021. Learn more about the annual contests here. The contest results will be announced in the spring. Each middle school winner will receive a monetary award of $250, and each high school winner will receive a monetary award of $500, generously funded by the Friends of Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Committee. HMMSA Elementary Holocaust Education Workshop   View Event

  • Description:  Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio (HMMSA) invites educators to join them for one of three virtual teacher workshops on Zoom to prepare for Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week. All educators who complete a workshop will receive two State of Texas CPE hours and a professional development package including Our Voices, Our Lives, a book for the classroom about local survivors. This workshop will provide a basic Holocaust history for elementary age students with a focus on tolerance, empathy, & pedagogy for grades K-5. HMMSA will provide lessons & ideas for Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week. Cost is $20 per registrant. Register here.

DocsTeach in the Classroom: International Holocaust Remembrance Day   View Event

  • Description:  Join the National Archives and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for a webinar on American responses to the refugee crisis and to the Holocaust in the 1930s and 1940s. In preparation for International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27), this webinar will include a presentation on the history of Holocaust refugees and American policy; a demonstration using DocsTeach.org to locate primary sources and explore teaching activities; and an examination of three case studies drawing on records from the National Archives and the Americans and the Holocaust exhibit at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This professional development webinar, which will cover the same material on two different dates and times, will be particularly valuable to teachers of English and Language Arts and Social Studies. This webinar will be an information session with brief presentations from: J.E. 2021 Dr. Steinberger Outstanding Educator Award of $1,000 Opens   View Event

  • Description:  The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Committee (THGAAC) is firmly committed to supporting efforts to teach the next generation about the Holocaust and/or genocides in the Ottoman Empire, Cambodia, Rwanda, the Balkans, Sudan (Darfur), and the Middle East (Iraq and Syria). In 2021, the THGAAC will present a monetary award of $1,000 to one educator who demonstrates a record of excellence in engaging any of the aforementioned subjects with Texas students (grades 6-12). Librarians, curriculum specialists, and classroom teachers in any discipline are eligible to apply. The deadline for submission is 4:00 P.M. C.D.T. Dr. Steinberger is a Holocaust survivor and served as a founding member of the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Committee. She retired from the University of Texas Medical School in 2001, but has continued to demonstrate a commitment to education in Texas.
