Jeanne Mammen (1890-1976) - A Life Dedicated to Art 11:00am - 12:00pm (1h)
Speaking Engagements
Starts Jun 2, 2021 at 11:00am
Ends Jun 2, 2021 at 12:00pm
The Berlin artist Jeanne Mammen (1890-1976) is best known for her depictions of strong, sensual women and Berlin city life. But there is much more to her 70 years of artistic output, with unique sketches, paintings and sculptures. Her studio on Kurfürstendamm 29, which she occupied from 1920 until the end of her life, is almost unchanged and allows us to come very close to this artist and her work.

Leading international scholars of the Holocaust and genocide will highlight women rescuers and resisters in daily life, in ghettos, forests, labor and death camps, including Jewish and non-Jewish women professionals and partisans. This symposium hopes to create a new narrative around agency in the Shoah and other genocides and to promote a rethinking of leadership in Holocaust resistance and rescue, which may inspire transformative activism today.
